Linda Stephans, CIMA
Managing Director

Linda Stephans is a Managing Director and Co-Lead of the Chicago office of Graystone Consulting, the independent Institutional Consulting Division of Morgan Stanley.  She has over 38 years of investment experience as a senior corporate executive and nonprofit Board member, which gives her a unique perspective in serving the complex needs of both institutional and private wealth clients. Linda serves as the lead partner with primary responsibility for business development and client management of the Chicago practice. Linda and her partners are part of an elite group of advisors and lead one of the largest institutional consulting practices at Morgan Stanley with over $5 Billion in assets under advisement(1).

Linda is a recognized industry leader and is a frequent speaker on the topic of impact investing.  She has received numerous professional accolades over the years and was most recently recognized on the Barron’s list of Top Institutional Consultants.  Linda was also one of the first professionals included in the Financial Times Inaugural Top 100 List.  In 2014, she was honored as a recipient of the 17th Annual Influential Women in Business Awards.

Prior to joining Graystone Consulting, Linda spent over 13 years at Merrill Lynch, where she played an instrumental role in helping drive the growth of the firm’s institutional consulting and private banking businesses.  She worked with her colleagues to launch the first Advisory Council to Management for Global Institutional Consulting, and also served as the Chair of the Private Banking Advisory Council to Management.  Linda enjoyed a 19-year career at The Northern Trust Company, where she held executive management positions in both the commercial lending and private wealth management groups.

In addition to her professional responsibilities, Linda is passionate about addressing the needs of her community.  Linda currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Chicago Public Library Foundation, providing support to enhance state-of-the-art technology and lifelong literary and learning programs.  Linda has held strategic leadership and board positions with Leadership Greater Chicago, The Music Institute of Chicago, Hadley School for the Blind, the Winnetka Community House, North Shore Senior Center, Christ Church Winnetka and the Winnetka Chamber of Commerce.  She is a Member of Forefront Chicago.

Linda holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst® (CIMA®) designation, awarded by the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA). She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and earned an M.B.A. with a concentration in Marketing and Finance from The J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Kristina Van Liew, CIMA

Kristina Van Liew is a Managing Director and Co-Lead of the Chicago office of Graystone Consulting, the independent Institutional Consulting Division of Morgan Stanley. With over 28 years of corporate banking, private wealth and institutional investment consulting experience, Kristina draws upon a long legacy of serving the consulting needs of nonprofit sector and complex private wealth arena.  Kristina and her partners are part of an elite group of advisors and lead one of the largest institutional consulting practices at Morgan Stanley with over $5 Billion in assets under advisement(1). As the lead partner in charge of investment innovation, Kristina provides leadership for guiding the strategic and  technical investment consulting for the Chicago practice. 

Kristina is Chair of the Advisory Board to Management for Graystone Consulting and serves on the Graystone Consulting Investment Advisory Council.  She is a published speaker on the topic of Impact Investing and the growing area of mission-based and sustainable investment strategies. Prior to joining the firm, she was a recognized leader at Merrill Lynch, where she served an instrumental role in expanding the consulting business and served as the Chair of the Merrill Lynch Global Institutional Consulting Group Advisory Board to Management. Kristina was also among a select group of advisors to serve as a Merrill Lynch faculty member in its Optimal Practice Model national training program. Before working at Merrill Lynch, Kristina enjoyed a long career at The Northern Trust Company, where she was Director of Institutional Investments.

Kristina has always had a deep commitment to her community and her clients benefit from her many years of experience serving as a Board member and strategic leader for several prominent organizations. She is a Life Director and past Chair of the Board of Executive Service Corps of Chicago, one of the country’s largest and oldest nonprofit management consulting firms. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Aurora Civic Center Authority (Paramount Theatre), one of the top 10 theatres in the Chicago region. In addition,  she is a founding Board member of iMentor Chicago which is an innovative and fast growing college success programs for Chicago inner city youth.  She is also a member of the Board of Trustees of All Saints Catholic Academy  and a member of Forefront.

Over the years, Kristina has received numerous distinctions and professional accolades and currently is recognized on Barron’s Top Institutional Consultants list and was honored as one of the first professionals to be included in the 2014 Financial Times Inaugural Top 100 List.   Kristina was named by Morgan Stanley to the 2017 MAKERS List, a women’s leadership platform highlighting stories of ground breaking women. 

Kristina holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation, awarded by the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA). She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in French at the University of Iowa and an M. B.A. with a concentration in Marketing and Finance from The J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Erik Oiler, CIMA, CFP

A seasoned professional with more than 22 years of wealth management experience, Erik Oiler is Managing Director and Institutional Consulting Director at Stephans Van Liew & Oiler Group at Graystone Consulting. Erik serves as the lead partner in charge of client relationship management and business operations of this Chicago-based consulting practice that has been highly recognized for its strategic solutions and service model for meeting the specialized financial goals of institutional and private wealth clients, as well as multi-generational families.

Prior to joining Graystone Consulting in early 2015, Erik was Managing Director at Merrill Lynch, where he worked for 17 years. In 2009, he was honored by the Family Wealth Alliance for the significant contributions made by professionals 40 years of age or under. While at Merrill Lynch, Erik was a member of the firm’s Mid America’s Advisory Council to Management and was an instructor in the Financial Advisors Development Program. Before joining Merrill Lynch in 1997, Erik worked at Norwest Corporation (now Wells Fargo) where he was Branch Manager and responsible for overseeing lending offices in both Wisconsin and Illinois.

Erik is dedicated to his local community and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Chicago Training Center, an innovative nonprofit focused on a unique after-school program alternative for inner city youth. He is also involved with the Northern Express Youth Hockey organization and the Metropolis Performing Arts Center in Arlington Heights.

Erik holds the  CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER (CFP) designation awarded by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. He also earned the Certified Financial Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation, awarded by the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA). In 2010, Erik was named by Barron’s to its state-by-state list of the Top 1,000 Financial Advisors nationwide. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance with a concentration in Economics from Iowa State University.

Kelli Schrade is the lead Partner in charge of the Chicago Office of Graystone Consulting Chicago Practice’s manager due diligence and research efforts. With over 20 years of professional experience in the investment consulting and asset management industry, Kelli and her partners lead one of the largest institutional consulting practices at Morgan Stanley with over $5 Billion in assets under advisement(1). The practice works with a diverse range of clients including foundations/endowments, healthcare organizations, religious orders, operating nonprofits, family offices and complex private wealth.

Kelli is a recognized industry leader, speaking at top investment conferences on topics from alternative investments to asset allocation to macroeconomic themes. In addition, Kelli has been quoted throughout the national media, including Barron’s and the Wall Street Journal. Prior to joining Graystone Consulting, Kelli was a Partner and Director of Manager Research for Marquette Associates, having primary oversight of their U.S. equity managers and serving as Chair of both the traditional and alternative investment manager search committees, overseeing $130 billion in client assets. Kelli spent over a decade with Marquette and was both an owner of the firm and instrumental in the organization’s growth and success. Before joining Marquette, Kelli was an Investment Advisor with Christian Brothers Investment Services. She began her career at Morningstar, Inc. where she served as a Managing Editor and Fund Analyst for more than 7 years, specializing in U.S. equity funds.

Kelli earned a BA in English from Kenyon College and an MBA with honors from The University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. She holds the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation and is a member of the CAIA Association®. In addition, Kelli is a member of the CFA Institute, the CFA Society of Chicago, NASP (National Association of Securities Professionals), and the Executives’ Club of Chicago. She previously served as Membership Chair for Women Investment Professionals - Chicago.

Jake Barnett

Jake Barnett is an Institutional Consultant with the Chicago Practice of Graystone Consulting, the independent Consulting Division of Morgan Stanley. Working with nonprofits, foundations/endowments, private wealth and other institutions to provide guidance on their investment programs, is a member of one of the largest institutional consulting practices at Morgan Stanley with over $5 Billion in assets under advisement(1).  Drawing from his past experience working in the public affairs and non-profit sector both domestically and abroad,  Jake brings a unique perspective to help clients align their investment programs to reflect their values and drive greater impact. Jake plays an active role in the Chicago Graystone team’s manager due diligence and investment research efforts, with a particular focus on the rapidly evolving Impact Investing category and those clients who seek to align their investments to reflect their values.

Throughout his career, Jake has explored the connection between business and positive impact through numerous initiatives in the St. Louis and broader Midwest region, working with municipalities and corporations to incorporate environmental sustainability best-practices into their operations. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Jake was a Fellow with the FOCUS St. Louis Coro Program in Public Affairs within their experiential leadership training program.  He also worked in fundraising and as a grant writer for ACCION Chicago. 

Over the past several years, Jake has played an instrumental role in the launch of the Catholic Impact Investing Initiative (CIIC) and currently serves on the Steering Committee for the organization. He has also served as a moderator for the St. Louis Impact Investing Discussion Series hosted in conjunction with Washington University.  Jake is a regularly requested speaker for groups interested in learning more about values aligned investing. Jake is active in supporting environmental non-profits in both regions,  including as a past Board Member and Treasurer for St. Louis Earth Day, and is broadly involved in community conversations about impact investment.  

Jake is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a triple major in Economics, International Relations, and Political Science.

Kelly Green

Kelly Major Green is a Financial Advisor and Institutional Consultant at the Chicago office of Graystone Consulting, the independent Consulting Division of Morgan Stanley.  Drawing from over 22 years of executive leadership and client advisory experience in the management consulting, marketing, and non-profit industries, Kelly is a member of one of the largest institutional consulting practices at Morgan Stanley with over $5 Billion in assets under advisement.  Kelly and her partners work with a diverse range of clients including, foundations/endowments, operating nonprofits, retirement plans and complex private wealth families who aspire to do well and to do good at the same time.

Throughout her career, Kelly had several broad consulting and leadership roles in a number of industries. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Kelly served as the Chief Operating Officer at United Way for Southeastern Michigan where she was responsible for the organization’s marketing, strategy, finance and investment functions, including the organization’s endowment and pension plans.   She started her career in management consulting, providing management strategy and strategy implementation advice to Fortune 1000 companies as a senior consultant at Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) and CSC Index.  She subsequently provided marketing strategy and consulting advice to clients as equity Partner and Marketing Director for Brogan & Partners Convergence Marketing, a boutique, women-owned, strategic marketing services firm in Detroit.

Kelly has been recognized by Crain’s Detroit Business as a “Woman to Watch” in 2010 and “40 under 40” in 2005.

Kelly’s community involvement is extensive. She serves on a number of non-profit and community boards, including serving a Trustee and Executive Committee member of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and an Executive Committee member and Treasurer of the Greater Wayne County Chapter, The Links Inc.

Kelly is a graduate of the J. L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University with an MBA in marketing and entrepreneurship. She is also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a BS in Electrical Engineering.

Patricia Zavagnin
Vice President
Group Director

Patricia Zavagnin is Vice President and Group Director at the Chicago Office of Graystone Consulting. Drawing on more than 35 years of experience and a diverse background in engineering, sales and information management, Patti leads all aspects of the Chicago-based team’s business management and client servicing activities and plays an integral role on the Group’s leadership team.

Patti is responsible for driving all initiatives to ensure clients have an exceptional service experience. She works diligently with the entire team to build a sustainable infrastructure and solid foundation to meet the sophisticated needs of the Group’s dynamic clientele. She oversees all marketing efforts, communications, event planning and conference organization. She also coordinates the on-boarding and training of new team members and college interns.

Patti shares in the team’s passion for taking an active leadership role in her local community. In her previous role at Merrill Lynch, she served as the Co-Chair of the Leadership Board of the Disability Advocacy Network of Bank of America/Chicago Chapter. Through her efforts, the group expanded its reach, raising awareness in the workplace for children and adults with disabilities.

Prior to joining Stephans Van Liew & Oiler Group, Patti worked for Proctor & Gamble in the process engineering group. She also worked for Owens-Corning Fiberglas as a Technical Sales Representative and Plastics Specialist. Passionate about education and working with children, Patti began her professional career in administration for Nazareth Academy, one of Chicago’s most well respected college preparatory catholic learning institutions.

Patti graduated from The University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and from Saint Mary’s College with a B.S. in Chemistry. She holds both the Series 7 and Series 66 securities licenses.

Iftikhar Khan
Vice President

With over 22 years of field leadership and managerial experience, Iftikhar Khan is Vice President and Director of Business Strategy at the Chicago Office of Graystone Consulting. An important member of the Group’s Leadership Team, Iftikhar is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the team, including human resources, compliance, business management, and client reporting, talent management and development

Prior to joining Graystone Consulting, Iftikhar was Vice President and Regional Administrative Manager of the Mid America Private Banking and Investment Group at Merrill Lynch. He also served as the Mid America Market Global Institutional Consulting Group’s liaison. He is an accomplished Compliance and Risk Executive with extensive experience in staff management, human resources, operations, auditing, talent acquisition and vendor/client relations. He is an outstanding strategist, who has been recognized for conducting detailed operational evaluations to identify, develop and implement initiatives that improve efficiency and maximize profitability.

Iftikhar holds an accreditation from Dale Carnegie in Human Relations, Communications and Leadership Skills. He graduated with a B.A. in Economics from the University of Colorado, Denver School of Business and earned a B.S. in Finance from the Metropolitan State University of Denver. Iftikhar holds the Series 7, 9, 10, 31 and 66 securities licenses.

Niesha Parekh, CIMA
Vice President
Director of Business Strategy

Niesha Parekh is Vice President and Director of Business Strategy at Stephans Van Liew & Oiler Group at Graystone Consulting. With more than 15 years of institutional portfolio management and investment consulting experience, she is responsible for leading the Group’s investment manager research efforts and serves as the lead relationship manager for several of the Group’s largest clients. Niesha also drives the team’s portfolio analytics discipline across a wide spectrum of traditional and alternative asset classes to support the Group’s sophisticated and diverse clientele.

Prior to joining Graystone Consulting in 2015, Neisha held a similar role at Merrill Lynch for eight years. Before joining Merrill Lynch, Niesha enjoyed an eight-year career with The Northern Trust Company. As a Vice President at Northern Trust, she supported a team of institutional consultants who worked with a broad range of foundations, endowments, nonprofits and religious organizations throughout the country. It was here where she assisted in the development of highly-customized investment programs for these organizations, including the design, asset allocation and implementation of the programs. Throughout her career, Niesha has held various positions in the institutional investment group, including serving the needs of high net worth wealth management clients.

Originally from Mumbai, India, Niesha holds an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance and Economics from Loyola University Chicago. She received her undergraduate degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Mumbai, India. Niesha holds the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) designation through the Investment Management Consultants Association in conjunction with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. She holds the Series 7, 63 and 66 securities licenses.

Pam Rasmussen

Pam Rasmussen joined the Chicago Office of Graystone Consulting in 2015 as a Portfolio Associate. She is an important addition to our client experience team, working closely with each member of the team, she ensures that our clients receive exceptional service. Pam is a tenured Morgan Stanley veteran with extensive field services experience. She is the point of contact for service, operations, maintenance and transactions as they relate to client accounts.

Previously, Pam held multiple positions that broadened her investment experience, including having been a Registered Associate with Mesirow Financial in Highland Park, Illinois, a Senior Registered Client Service Associate with Wayne Hummer Investments in Lake Forest, Illinois and a Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in Tampa, Florida.

Pam is a graduate of University of South Florida and holds a B.A. in Theatre Arts. She holds NASD Series 7, Series 63 and 65 and Series 31 securities licenses, as well as an Illinois Life, Health & Variable Annuity license.

Jackson Brandstetter

Jackson Brandstetter joined the Chicago Office of Graystone Consulting in 2016.  As a new member of the Group, Jackson focuses on providing outstanding client service, research, technology support and performance analytics to meet the sophisticated needs of our clients. Prior to joining Graystone Consulting, Jackson worked as a Wheat and Soybean options Trader at WH Trading, a boutique statistical arbitrage and relative value trading outfit in Chicago. Most recently, Jackson was a Financial Analyst at Sears Holdings Corporation where he developed robust technical and FP&A skills and served as an active committee member of WILD (Women in Leadership & Development.)

A Chicago native, Jackson is a current Member and mentor with iMentor Chicago.  A Not For Profit that empowers first generation students from low-income communities to succeed in their educational and professional endeavors.  

A graduate of Wesleyan University, with a B.A. in Economics, Jackson has remained committed to his alma mater by volunteering his time to organize and schedule regional fundraising events as well as serving as class agent. Jackson currently holds the Series 7 and 66 securities licenses and he is a  CFA Level 1 candidate.

Michael L. Wittman, CFA®

Michael Wittman is Vice President and Director of Investments at the Chicago Office of Graystone Consulting.  With more than 25 years in finance, his current responsibilities include in-depth investment manager research and due diligence as well as broader research of impact and sustainable investment opportunities.  Mike leads the Analyst Group’s investment committee process  that serves to formulate the consulting practice’s overall investment outlook and manager conviction.

Prior to joining Graystone Consulting, Mike enjoyed an eight-year career at Merrill Lynch, most recently serving as a senior financial analyst responsible for asset allocation, portfolio implementation and management, as well as tactical hedging, for an investment team that served high net worth and institutional clientele, including foundations, endowments, pensions and defined benefit plans.  Further, Mike lead the team’s ongoing traditional and alternative investment manager due diligence efforts.  Previous to Merrill Lynch, Mike was an associate working in the Chicago Office of Neuberger Berman responsible for performance reporting and analytics as well as relationship management  for a high net worth Private Asset Management book of business. 

Originally from Wisconsin, Mike graduated Summa Cum Laude earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University.  He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation from the CFA Institute and is a member of the CFA Society of Chicago. He holds the Series 7, 55, 63 and 66 securities licenses.
